Our Story
Harry Evans was born in England
in 1840 and played at his father's billiard room as
a child progressing to a very high level, winning his
first professional title in London in 1882 astounding
the English entities as to his skill. He married and
traveled to Adelaide (Australia), in 1882 and quickly
established his reputation as a very fine local player.
Competitions taking him as far field as Coolgardie,
WA and Melbourne he was truly the professional billiards
player going on to win three World Championship Titles.
Now with four sons, Harry (Senior),
moved to Melbourne in the mid 1890's and established
a family business- buying, selling and restoring billiard
tables - the lovely small craft business continuing
today.
Eldest son, Harry (Junior), who became
involved in the business setting up and running billiard
rooms, was also a cabinet maker. The business situated
in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne takes on a stronger manufacturing
entity. 
Third generation, now Harry Evans &
Sons (late RAAF and2nd ALF) saw Norm and Gordon, also
cabinet makers and french polisher, operating at Elizabeth
Street Melbourne and later in 1957 at the Fitzroy premises.
David,
son of Gordon, commenced with Harry Evans & Sons (Vic)
Pty.Ltd. in 1985 following on from an 18 year career
in electronics. Having grown up with the business workings
as seen through the eyes of his father and uncle David
has had a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw
on.
Now with four generations of manufacturing
we are proud of our family heritage and continue to
provide that same level of quality service to our customers.
